Real Anatomy of Technology
I loved creating my Real Anatomy of Technology Project. I enjoyed learning how to shade abstract objects to make them look three dimensional. I first started this project by creating an outline of the iPad. I then added the details of the iPad and also added both of the hands as if they are holding onto the iPad. After that, I began the coloring process. This probably took the longest because of all of the different shading that was needed. My artwork isn't just a person holding onto an iPad. The melting hands portray how powerful technology can be if we become addicted to it. Too often people from my generation are on their phone and are not taking enough time to talk to someone that isn't through a screen. It is very important to take a break and step back from technology before we lose touch with reality. Technology can also get people into trouble if they are not careful while being online. While creating this project I also realized that I need to work on building relationships with people around me rather than being on my phone. Once high school is over I am going miss the opportunity to create lasting memories with my friends that I have known throughout my entire life.
Technology has not only impacted me but my family life as well. Every day my family and I depend on smartphones, television, and the computer. We rely on smartphones by communicating with each other, finding out local news, or even playing games. The television informs us of national news, the upcoming weather, and it also brings us entertainment. Finally, the computer allows us to access anything we desire on the internet. We do everything from watching YouTube videos to doing homework for an online college course. Without these types of technology, our lives would be totally different. Technology is very relevant to me and my closest friends. All of my closest friends are involved in online college classes. This makes our laptops and the internet very important. Without each of those, there is no way we would be able to complete the required assignments. We also have smartphones that allow us to communicate with others. Smartphones also let us search social media to find out news about our friends and meet new people. I think saying technology is relevant to me and my closest friends is an understatement. I believe that technology plays a large part in our life.
During my interview with my dad, he talked about how life was without technology. He mentioned going to each of his friends' houses to pick them up rather than texting them to meet somewhere. Him and his friends memorized all the country roads around their town so there was no need to use Google Maps. He also said that without technology he was able to become a lot become a lot closer with everyone in his class. My interview ended with my dad saying that when he was younger there was no need for the amount of technology that we have today. He also included that he has noticed how technology has shaped our current world.

I enjoyed creating my "value of words" project. This lead me to a type of art that was very new to me. At first I was not sure how I would do this but once I started working on it, surprisingly it came very natural. I started this project by drawing a little tree. Over time I added more branches to make the tree look much bigger. In the progress pictures it is astonishing to see the transformation and see how I first started my piece. After drawing the tree and landscape, I couldn't decide what words to implement. I finally thought of a song called "The Giving Tree" by the Plain White T's. This song portrays a story about a boy that got his heart broken by a girl. The song starts by saying, "All the leaves on the giving tree have fallen." I used the lyrics of this song as the outline of my artwork. This is a great representation of my piece because there are no leaves to be seen on the tree. It also represents that the boy has nothing left to give to the girl that once mistreated him. I then began the long process of substituting the lines with words. This process was very lengthy because of all of the little branches. After that was done I finished by adding "The Giving Tree" in the ground.
I don't believe every piece of artwork of should have a description. Often times your imagination should create that description for you. This also lets you be the artist because you get to describe what you see. Each person's description may be totally unique and it is interesting to see how differently they interpret that same piece of artwork. Pieces of artwork that contain words tend to have more of a meaning behind it. It is important to understand the message the artist is trying to portray though the words.

Printmaking has by far been my favorite project to create in this class. Ever since I was little, I have always enjoyed using my hands to carve different things. I knew that I was going to carve a deer right away. I chose a deer because it reminds me of my family traditions. Every year my dad, uncles, cousins, and grandpa all go up north to deer hunt. While at the hunting cabin, we share countless stories and memories together. This was the first year that my grandpa did not come because of health reasons. It was not the same without him there, so I am going to give him my project as a reminder of the great times we had together while deer hunting.
I first started my writing the outline of the deer with a pencil on the matrix. After everything was traced, I began carving by using smaller sized tool to carve out where my previous pencil lines were. This was a little more difficult than expected because there were a lot of sharp lines. After I finished carving out the deer outline I decided to do a test print. I was very surprised by how well it turned out. The only thing I needed to do was make the lines a little deeper around the antlers. After touching up and carving some more, I began the final prints. Final printing went pretty good for me. The only downside was that I had to wash off all of the ink after every two attempts. This left my hands very black at the end of the hour. Overall, I really enjoyed this creating project and hope to do more in the future!

Art for Awareness
While thinking about what topics to do, I thought exploring climate change. I read a couple articles pertaining how climate change how affect the world that we now live in. I knew right away that I wanted to raise awareness about climate change. Because l loved creating our last printmaking project, I chose to make another one for this project. I started by thinking of designs to create that related to the topic of climate change. I first though of carving a melting Earth onto the matrix. After a little bit more of brainstorming, I thought of incorporating an ice cream cone into the project to make it seem as if our world is melting like ice cream. It was now time to carve out the matrix. I started out by creating an outline made by pencil, then I began to carve away. I finished carving and decided to do my first test print. The test print turned out very good. I then washed my matrix and starting making final prints. I made a total of 8 prints to chose the best 6 from. While the prints dried, I started to cut out blue and green pieces of paper for the background. Blue and green resemble the main colors of earth so I decided to chose them. The final step consisted of gluing final on the prints on the colored paper. I chose to raise awareness because climate change because it is becoming a larger problem each day. There is also a lot of people that are doing nothing about this serious issue. Even though there funds available to donate to that help clean our oceans from harmful chemicals. If this climate change rate continues, in 40 years we may have to wear oxygen masks when we go outside. For example, the Great Barrier Reef is experiencing warmer waters due to climate change. This is causing part of the reef to die along with the hundreds of different species of fish that live there. This is just one instance of how climate change has greatly affected our world. I hope this project has informed you that we need to start caring for our world before we ruin it. |
